Why we don’t just hire medical students.

Because they’re shyt…
At the stuff they don’t know.
(which is a LOT btw)
And that, my fine feathered friend, is a fact.
Here’s the thing:
Every now and then someone will come onto a webinar or email us or sms and ask if all our team are medical students.
And I’m like…
LOL
Hell no.
Have you ever asked a medical student to work 9-5 Mon-Fri?
They can’t.
They’re, you know, at uni.
Have you ever asked a medical student to do admin?
Well, we have but there are better uses of their time. So we have admin people doing admin. And they’re not medical students.
We don’t just blindly hire medical students just because.
I mean,
Even for tutoring, not every medical student is good for the job. Just because they got through the GAMSAT and are in uni does not mean they:
1 – Know how they got them.
Some of these guys and gals are ‘unconsciously competent’.
Meaning,
They’re good but don’t know why and how. They just are.
Which makes them about as useful as tits on a bull when it comes to teaching others.
2 – Nor do they often know how to teach.
Just because someone knows something, they might even know how and why they know it, doesn’t mean they can effectively convey that to another person. Especially one that’s having difficulty. It requires a certain level of imagination, patience, and skill that not everyone possesses. At least for the tutors we hire.
3 – Many are not actually people you want around.
Some medical students are obnoxious AF…
And I should know 😉
So no, we don’t just hire medical students just because.
We hire the right person for the right job.
That way we get the best results possible and everyone is happy.
With that in mind,
Right now we have an incredible job going which is perfect for non-medical students and people who want to be future medical students.
We even shot a ‘rather candid’ video about what it’s like to work with us, for those crazy enough to even consider it 😉
Here’s the link to watch it and find out more about the role.
Cheers,
Dr “Obnoxious former medical student” Tom
