THE LAST FEW WEEKS

A few people have been reaching out to us asking us what they should be doing with their GAMSAT study in the last few weeks leading up to the exam.
They’re a bit lost, nervous, and overwhelmed as time is ticking and you’re starting to think to yourself that you’d be a lot more prepared and you’re starting to doubt yourself whether you’ll do well in this exam.
The first thing to do, is to step back and ask yourself why you think you’re not ready?
Did you only start your study in the past few weeks and realising you didn’t give yourself enough time? Are you getting the same score over and over again and not seeing any changes?
If these questions, sound familiar to you, then you’re not alone. It’s usually 3-4 weeks out from the exam, that these doubts start creeping in. You start wanting, needing to see results and you’re just not sure if you’re there yet, let alone have enough time to feel ready by the day the exam rolls around.
The first thing we want you to do, is to recognise these thoughts. It’s important because if you don’t acknowledge them know, they’ll niggle away at you right up to the exam day and we want to knock it on the head now, so when you sit the exam, you feel as prepared as you can be.
Once you addressed these thoughts, ask yourself ‘ do I really feel this way, or is it just nerves getting the better of me’ because there’s a real difference between being nervous and actually being unprepared.
If you fall into category b) being unprepared then we can help you be prepared even with the short amount of time left.
The first thing, is to change the way you think about the time you’ve got left. Rather than stressing and dwelling over the short amount of time till the exam, change your thoughts from ‘I don’t have enough time’ to ‘there’s 24 hours in a day, every day, for the next x amount of days, I’m going to use this time effectively’.
Secondly, create a clear study timetable that works for you. Now that you’ve changed your thoughts around the time left till the exam, you know that there’s no time for excuses, delays or procrastination. The work has to be done, and the time is going to pass anyway, so start by working on a clear, solid study timetable that you can stick to for the next few weeks.
Thirdly, once that timetable is set up, you need focus on high quality study, rather than ‘I just need to get through all of this before the exam and then I’ll feel ready’ because what you’re doing is churning through information that isn’t going to stick. High quality study on the other hand, is a longer yet more beneficial process to actually see the results you want.
