How to best apply with a GAMSAT score in the 60s

How to best apply with a GAMSAT score in the 60s

Hi!

What I’m about to teach you is for people who:

1 – Have a decent GAMSAT score already – something above 65.

You’re hoping the March result will increase your score, but either way will be applying this year (using your existing score on the March one).

And, this is also for people who…

2 – Are expecting to get a score from March that you can apply with.

Or,

3 – Maybe you’ve even applied before and for some reason didn’t get an interview…

Or maybe you’ve even had an interview in the past, but didn’t get in.

What I’m about to say is for you.

Plus the next few emails too.

=> Click here to learn how to make sure you get an interview this year, and then perform well enough to get in.

Here’s the thing…

The March exam is over and it’s completely out of your hands now.

So the thing to do now is to not think or worry about March but instead to look at what is the next step, rather than freaking out about what your March result may be. That’s what we’ve got to do now.

So today let’s talk about the applications because they’re the next step.

But before we do that, let me just say that I’m not Dr Tom.

I’m Mare.

(It’s pronounced ‘Mah-Reh’, or you can just call me Maree.)

I’ve taken over for the next few emails because I’m going to be joining Dr Tom on the upcoming training session all about applications and interviews and thought I’d introduce myself here.

I used to work doing interviews for a living. I worked for a few small companies – you may have heard of them – companies such as Prada, Versace, Clarins, BP Petroleum, and a few of the banks too. 🙂

“Small companies,” right?! haha

Then I trained Tom to pass his medical school interview – he was my first medical student.

And ever since I’ve taught and prepared hundreds of people for medical school interviews.

I’ve even helped people with scores as low as 57 get into Australian post grad medical schools (and they were NOT rural or international students either).

Now it’s your turn.

My approach to things is a little different to Tom’s so I hope it makes sense. But let me know if you have any questions.

So as I was saying…

Let’s start by talking about the applications.

Do you know what the application process is?

Where you want to apply, why you want to apply there?

(Maybe even, why you got an interview last time or why you didn’t get one?)

No? Maybe?

This is important because it will affect what will help you get an interview and then get in.

Think about the strategy of where you’re applying to, not just the one that’s close to home. If you want to go to the one that’s close to home, that’s great, but if you just want to get in then we’ve got to think about it strategically.

Most people tell me, “it’d be good to go there but if I don’t, I’m willing to move.”

Ok them what we’ve got to do is what will you do to make sure that happens?

And you can’t just believe what you read on the internet about, this person got in with this therefore that’s the lowest mark – you can’t just believe what random anonymous people say on the internet.

You’ve got to have your own strategy.

Just because your friend did it – your friend has all these other things happening that have nothing to do with you.

Do you know about the portfolio and how that works?

You’ve got to understand how to write an actual portfolio. What you’ve got to be able to do is actually write about your experiences in a way that shows and showcases your skill set and most people haven’t been taught how to do that.

There’s also the personal statement – it’s the same thing.

It’s your opportunity to showcase who you are. But if you’re coming from a place of, “I don’t like to talk about myself. I don’t want to sound like I’m some sort of show off”, then you’re going to write a shitty personal statement.

You don’t want to come into it being really condescending either like, look at me I’m the best person in the world, but you also don’t want to do it coming from a place of feeling like shit about yourself.

You gotta get centered and then have the right strategies and techniques to talk about yourself and feel good about it.

As for the other unis – it’s more about the strategy for your order or preferences. The cut-off scores you find online are usually misleading. Usually they’re much higher, or lower.

Like I said earlier I recently helped someone with a 57 get in.

Have you got over a 57?

Then we’ve got to look at strategy.

Obviously, they had other things going for them. That’s not a normal, standard thing that happened. However, I use it as an example to show you what’s possible when you have strategy, because if she did what she wanted to do, which was not good at all, she probably wouldn’t have gotten in.

You’re trying to do your own research on it but you don’t have a big macro view. You’re looking at the little details and you’re not actually thinking about this stuff.

If you’ve got a score in the mid-60s, like a 65 or 67, or more, then you can get in.

You can get in with a 67 – if you’re not in, then something’s going wrong.

So think about what I mentioned here.

And if you’d like more help and to hear about other areas of applications and the interviews then come along to my training session this Thursday.

Tom and I will be running it together.

Love,

MJF xx
