HOW THE GAMSAT IS JUST LIKE A BOOTCAMP (NO PUN INTENDED!)

If you’ve ever done a Bootcamp before, you should have some idea what I’m talking about in today’s article.

If not, then that’s ok because if you’re preparing for the GAMSAT then you’re pretty much doing a Bootcamp anyway.

Now what do I exactly mean when I say ‘the GAMSAT is just like a Bootcamp’?

The whole reason behind why people do Bootcamps is to either

  1. become fit
  2. challenge themselves
  3. have fun in a team environment.

Doesn’t sound like the GAMSAT does it? WRONG. The GAMSAT is just like a Bootcamp and I’m going to show you how.

Firstly, you have to decide when you’re going to do the Bootcamp (just like picking the March or September GAMSAT).

Once you have set that date, you then start the training process (aka studying) and this is where all of the obstacles and challenges start to really test you (aka life).

You have to set goals, you have to put in the time and effort to reach those goals to get the result you’re after #hastag abs (a good GAMSAT score to get into med school).

And depending on how time you give yourself to get those results, they’re going to be different for everyone.

Someone who commits to a two week intensive Bootcamp is going to go hard and go home, but won’t see long-lasting results, as they’re only giving themselves a very small amount of time to achieve that result (and that result realistically won’t be rock hard 6 pack).

If you spend six months working out, every couple of days at a slower gradual pace, you’ll see results be able to make changes here and there to get the exact result you’re after.

Now to link this back to the GAMSAT, 80% of your time is spent in training aka studying and depending on how much time you give yourself, you’re going to get different results unless your #hastag genetically blessed.

The point I’m really trying to make here is the fact that to see progress and make changes that will contribute to your end result, you need to dedicate a longer time in the training process to be able to maximise your results.

If you want to get a GAMSAT score in the 70s, then sitting the exam with 4 weeks of preparation isn’t going to the cut (unless you’re really, really lucky).

As the saying goes, it’s not the destination it’s the journey and it’s that’s pretty much what studying for the GAMSAT exam is really about. The journey. Of course, the destination is going to be great, but all the small steps along the way is what really counts.
