If you applied to Notre Dame or Wollongong this year and fell short of getting an interview offer and wondering why you didn’t, then you need to read this article.
So, your friend who got a score in the high 50s, got an interview offer and your score was in the mid 60s and you missed out, and you’re left wondering to yourself ‘Why did they get an interview offer with a lower score than mine!?’ well worry no more.
I’m here to address some common myths when it comes to why someone who got a score lower than you got an interview offer at a portfolio university. Key word here, portfolio.
Unlike every other universities, Notre Dame and Wollongong include portfolios as apart of their application process. This weighting on your application, affects your eligibility as to whether or not you’ll be successfully in getting an interview with them.
Of course, the GPA and GEMSAS is important, but many forget the importance of the portfolio when it comes to these two universities.
Lots of applicants whose GAMSAT scores aren’t exactly in the “competitive” range, dive towards Wollongong and Notre Dame as there cut off scores tend to be overall lower than those universities who don’t have a portfolio component.
This is where lots of people go wrong. They put Wollongong and Notre Dame as a first or second preference in the hopes that with a lower-ish GAMSAT score, they will have higher chance of getting an interview offer.
However, this process is wrong-thinking and wrong-doing, in so the fact, that your portfolio weighs around 30% or so to the overall ranking.
Do not let the lower cut off score fool you. The portfolio counts. It makes the difference, between your friend who got high 50s to your mid 60s score.
