What Can You Expect To See In The GAMSAT?

What topics can you expect to get or see in the upcoming GAMSAT?
So, you’ve got Section 1, Section 2 & Section 3. But what topics? What can you expect to see come up in the GAMSAT? That’s what I’m going to be talking about today.

Firstly, they’re like…
‘Oh! It’s Section one. There are so many different things. What can I expect? Is it going to be poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction? What about in the essays? What themes can I expect? Is there going to be love, education, war, peace, politics whatever? What can I expect? And in Section 3, Chemistry, Biology? What kind of questions? What kind of topics are going to come up?’, because that’s how a lot of people decide what to study and how to prepare themselves. Now, the problem with that is that there is no way of knowing what’s going to come up. There are so many different things that can come up in the GAMSAT and I like to say that the only thing you can expect in the GAMSAT is the unexpected.

So, you’ve got to get yourself ready for that

You don’t know if it’s going to be poetry, drama, fiction. What kind of passages? What kinds of themes are going to come up in the essays, for example? There is no way of knowing. The only thing you can expect is the unexpected and you’ve got to get yourself ready for all the unexpected things that can come up. So, there’s no point in going ‘Oh! I’m going to44 study all of these chemistry topics and then I’ll be fine’ because then you get into the GAMSAT and you realise that none of them are in there or half of them aren’t even in there. They’ve got all these other random things you could never have prepared for or expected or seen. And that’s why I said, I like to say the only thing you can really expect is the unexpected.

So, then the big question is…

‘How do you get yourself ready for that? How do you make sure that you can quickly and effectively pull apart and understand any type of set of the stimulus material they give you in Section 1? And how can you make sure that you can write a unique essay that stands out for whatever theme comes up?
Whether it’s one that you love but you want to stand out in it or something that you hate writing about like politics and a lot of people hate writing about that! Maybe there’s a topic you know a lot about or something you know nothing about. You still have to know how to write an essay about it. And then there’s Section 3, there are so many different topics. So you have got to make sure that you’re able to quickly and effectively pull a part and understand any type of Section 3 stimulus material they give you.

So then the big question is ‘How do you do that? How do you get yourself ready for the unexpected, the random, the things that you never have known or could have prepared for?’ Well, that’s what I started the Bootcamp.
